Hello families! Because we are unsure of the length of School Closures, I am providing a Learning Day Plan that you can use to make sure learning continues over the next couple of days before Spring Break. The following contains resources for Tuesday. I will send learning resources for Wednesday tomorrow. Further information will be available after Spring Break. Please comment below to let me know if you have received this!
Hello Families, Please read the two important messages below: Yesterday, the government announced that all classes are cancelled immediately and indefinitely due to COVID-19. We thank the government for listening to school boards and parents to support the health and safety of students, staff and families.
Please do not send your students to school Monday, March 16, 2020 and until further notice. Before and after school programs are also cancelled. Staff will be available at each school to ensure that, if students show up, parents will be contacted and expected to pick up their child immediately. More information will be sent to you in the coming days with details on when to pick up personal belongings, return library books, etc. Schools will create a pick up schedule which will be communicated to parents. Please note that yellow school buses and other specialized transportation will not be running tomorrow. Alberta Education has stated that every K-12 student will receive a final mark and students will progress to their next grade level next year. Provincial assessments, such as provincial achievement tests, will be cancelled. At this time, diploma exams essential for post-secondary acceptance will continue. Every student who is eligible to graduate from Grade 12 this year will graduate. We will continue to work with Alberta Education on these details. In the coming days, the CBE will be providing more information and supports for online learning, as appropriate. The government has also indicated that teachers and other staff are expected to work, either from their school or workplace. Spring break will continue as scheduled. During spring break, school buildings will be closed and school-based staff will not be working during this time. We know you have many questions. We will continue to update you as more details are confirmed. Thank you for your patience and support. Christopher Usih Chief Superintendent Brenna Fraser Principal, Rosscarrock School Calgary Board of Education | cbe.ab.ca/Rosscarrock t | 403-777-8390 f | 403-777-8392 Dear Parents,
Based on the changing provincial and local response to COVID-19, the CBE has given us direction to postpone our Parent Teacher Conferences (Student-led Open House) scheduled for March 18 & 19, 2020. If your child’s teacher has scheduled an appointment on Thursday March 19, 2020, your child’s teacher will call you at your appointment time, please make sure you are available at that time. All CBE schools have been given direction to postpone or cancel events that include populations from other schools and/or parents or other community members, such as Parent-Teacher Interviews, celebrations of learning, drama/musical performances, dances, athletic competitions, etc. This decision is effective from Mar. 12 until the end of March break. This decision will be revisited during March break to determine whether events should be rescheduled. Events outside of school hours that include the regular student and staff population of the school (school clubs, practices, etc) and scheduled field trips may continue at this time. I know this may be disappointing news. Students and staff have spent a significant amount of time preparing for this event, but the health of our community is our priority. For the most up to date information about the CBE’s approach to COVID-19 and the actions we are taking, please visit our website. Answers to frequently asked questions will continue to be posted as information becomes available. Thank you, Brenna Fraser Brenna Fraser Principal Rosscarrock School 403-777-8390 [email protected] Today was Day 2 for Rollerblading! The instructor has been very impressed with how our class has listened and participated! Way to go Grade 4/5!
In Social Studies and LA we are focussing on researching the history of an Indigenous group in Alberta. We are practicing note-taking in point form, writing our information into sentences and, once finished, we will put our writing into presentation form to share with you next week at Student-led conferences. Dear Parents and Guardians,
Student-Led Conferences are coming soon! The purpose of these conferences is to provide your child the opportunity to share their accomplishments and celebrate all they have learned this year. Please note, we have made some changes to this year’s conference schedule: · On Wednesday, March 18, all students along with their families are invited to come to Rosscarrock School any time between 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Plan on being here with your child for about 30 minutes. · There is no need for you to sign up for a conference time. · Your child will lead you through a series of activities and displays that showcase their learning. If your child’s teacher feels there is a need to formally meet to discuss you child’s learning, they will contact you to schedule a meeting time. These meetings will take place on Thursday, March 19, between 8:00 am to 12:30 pm. You do not need to sign up as the teacher will contact you directly. The Scholastic Book Fair will be taking place in the Library on both of these dates. You are invited to please visit with your child to shop for books. We look forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday evening, March 18, for a night of celebrating our learning! Sincerely, Ms. Brenna Fraser Principal, Rosscarrock School [email protected] Yesterday, we tested our procedural writing to see if Ms. Quon and our student teacher, Ms. Blunden could make a peanut butter (wow butter) and jelly sandwich from our instructions. We had to be extremely specific and use a variety of transitional words in our writing. Only 2 sets of instructions ended in a successful sandwich (which we split evenly amongst the class!)
It was very nice to see the class today after being home for the past week recovering from a bout of pneumonia. Thank you to all of my little helpers today who spoke for me when my voice was going, helped lead our Math game, and worked quietly and diligently!
This week we are using a 'sticker chart' system. At the beginning of the day students have a blank sticky with the phrase 'I had a great day!. At various times throughout the day, I will place a colored star, sticker or hole-punch on the chart for completing tasks as expected. This gives students an opportunity to visually see where they are doing well and what they could focus on for the following day. At the end of each students take their chart home and they can show you how their day went. Today they could have received a maximum of 8 stickers. Students brought home a letter today outlining In-line skating that will take place as part of our Phys Ed program next week at school. Each class will get 1 hour instruction each day. I hope everyone had a wonderful loooooong weekend!
