Dear Mom and Dad,
Please come to our Student Led Conferences on Thursday evening or Friday during the day. If you go on-line to the Parent Conferences website, you can see the times that are open and book us in. From, Your loving child. A reminder that tomorrow evening is the Family Pizza Night at the Nicholls' Family Library! Remember that students must come with their families as it is in the evening and therefore not a supervised event. Just a reminder that next week is Parent Conferences. On-line booking is now open. This round of conferences are Student Led which means students will be the ones to show you their work, lead you through activities and demonstrations so that you can gain a better view of what they have been learning and artifacts of their own personal work. I hope to see all parents either Thursday evening or Friday during the day (no school for students that day)!
Today was Library and Sharing Day.
In Math we are learning to skip count and group numbers for easier counting. The grade 3's will use this skill in building their knowledge of multiplication next week. This afternoon we learned about Foundations and how they are important for making a structure stable. Then we used our knowledge to improve our 100 cup tower designs! Today we were engaged in 2 activities that required cooperative group work:
As part of our Literacy, we are learning about the elements of a Fairy Tale. We learned what a Venn Diagram is and how to use it to organize a comparison of 2 things. In groups of 3, students compared the similarities and differences of The Three Little Books and Little Red Riding Hood. We also learned about the Engineering process and students were given the Problem of: How can I build a tower that is tall as well as stable? The challenge was to use 100 plastic cups to build the tallest tower they could without it falling over! We had many tired students today....Daylight Savings Time is definitely an adjustment!
If you have not already done so, please return It's a Crime Not To Read Family Pizza night forms by Wednesday so that the library staff can plan accordingly. A reminder that this is a free event but students must come accompanied and supervised by their family. Our new Words of the Week are focussed on the long 'i' sound and adding word endings: slide sliding cry cried fry fried glide glider inside beside The presentation of the 3 Little Pigs today was terrific! A reminder that tomorrow is Library Day as well as Sharing Circle Day. Please see letter attached below.
Today we wrote secret messages in lemon juice. Tomorrow we will see if we can read them under a lamp. We got the idea from a novel we read together last month.
Tomorrow we have a special presentation of the Three Little Pigs by Evergreen Theatre. Today we learned about the 3 different Geographic Regions of Peru.
We also started to learn about different Structures for Science. In Math, Grade 3's are learning about subtraction with regrouping and Grade 2's are learning about equal and unequal equations. We have the same Words of the Week with a test on Friday On Wednesday the school will be treated to a performance by Evergreen Theatre! |
