We had a very successful Terry Fox Run today! Everyone ran or walked the entire time!
Our class ran a total of 135 laps around the field!! There is a notice in your child's backpack regarding Picture Day which is Monday, October 15.

Today was library day A reminder that tomorrow is the Terry Fox run and Early Dismissal day.
Today we had our first visit from It's A Crime Not To Read! For those of you who are unfamiliar with the program, The Calgary Public Library and Calgary Police Service partner up to bring a love of reading to the grade 2 and 3 students at our school. Each month we will have a visit from the Nichol Family Library and Constable Suzanne. The library staff will bring along a variety of books and students can borrow 2 books from them. As part of the visit, Constable Suzanne will read some of her favourite books to the students and answer a variety of questions that they may have about her job. It is a great program that enriches students' reading!
Fall is is the air! I have asked students to pay attention to the changes they notice now that our season has changed! Particularly the trees/leaves and evening sky. We will be doing a variety of art and reading/writing activities along this theme in the days and weeks to come. Our Words of the Week are:
are sent first nest how ten our pet went best Our Terry Fox run is set for this Friday morning. We will kick off with a short assembly at 10:30 and then running from 10:45 - 11:15. Students may bring a Toonie for Terry if they would like. A reminder that tomorrow is Library Day.
Also a reminder that Meet the Teacher conferences are tomorrow evening and daytime Friday. Interviews are scheduled on-line. https://sis.cbe.ab.ca/public/home.html Students worked very hard today on Word Work, editing their journal entries, finishing up a Map of Our Heart and a Math About Me project. We also learned how to summerize the beginning, middle and end of a story using 2 picture books. (The Bad Seed was our favourite!) We started a mapping unit by looking at a variety of maps from Disneyworld. What a great learning day!

Today we added 5 new words to our Word Wall. with have about was here These are words that are sometimes difficult to remember how to spell but we use them often in our writing. Remember to sign up for our Meet the Teacher interviews this Thursday evening and Friday. I am very happy with how we all are settling into our new routines! We shared a movement break outside with our Grade 6 buddies today and everyone looked well dressed for the crazy weather!
Next week is Meet the Teacher interviews. Please follow the link below if you have not already booked a time for us to meet. I greatly look forward to getting to know you as well as exchanging information that will help me guide your child's learning year! We had a very busy hard working day! We are slowly getting accustomed to the long afternoons. I was very proud of how hard everyone worked today! Today was library day....Ms. Olafson sent out invoices to students who have overdue books from last year.... please make sure to check your child's backpack for a yellow sheet from Rosscarrock School Library.(There were only 5 from our class) Today we talked about 'wrinkled hearts', our hopes for the year and How Many Ways to Make '12'. Today we had our first Making Words lesson. Students used letter tiles to create a list of words and then copy them into their Word Work books. Today's lesson focussed on reviewing short a and e vowel sounds.
In math we have been learning a variety of math games to review number sense. Today's game was Slap Jack....ask me about it! Next week we will be starting Jump Math. A reminder that tomorrow is our second library exchange day! |
