THE ULTIMATE
Sorry for my tardiness in blogging - I was away Monday afternoon as well as Tuesday afternoon. The guest teacher, Ms. Watson, said she greatly enjoyed being with the students.
Today was ICNR! They read some great book.... '7 ate 9 was a favourite as welll Piggy, Elephant and Snake. Books can be kept until later in January. Tomorrow is Family Movie Night! Friday is the last day before the Holiday Break. It is also Pajama Day! Today we made had a math challenge using Base Ten Blocks. Students found many ways to represent numbers using exactly 32 Base Ten Blocks. Mrs. Fraser joined us for the activity!
We also created beautiful Winter Night scenes using white chalk and pencil crayons. Today was Library Day. Tomorrow is Library Day!
Today we learned that lightning is 30 000 degrees celsius and the sun is 5600 degrees celsius!! In math today grade 2's learned that the order you add numbers doesn't matter but it does matter when you subtract! Grade 3's learned how to write numbers in the hundreds using words. Next Wednesday is It's a Crime Not to Read. If your child is finished reading their books from last month they should return them before then. Today we had 2 students going home sick :( The flu is definitely going around! Please be sure your little ones are washing there hands often and getting lots of sleep to keep the bugs away!
Today we picked a Robert Munsch story to draw a Story Map of. Ask your child what story they are doing. We also did a science experiment to answer the question: "Are mittens or hats warm?" Ask your child what we found out. Today students got to vote on which movie should be played at the Family Movie Night on Thursday, Dec. 20th! The movie playing will be announced that evening. Below is a message from Mrs. Fraser regarding swimming lessons coming up in the New Year.
Today we continued our work with numbers to 100 and 1000.
Grade 2's are learning to count to 100 by 2's, 5's and 10's as well as representing 2-digit numbers with blocks Grade 3's are learning to represent 3-digit numbers in expanded form as well as number form. This afternoon students used there reading, writing and word work skills to find and record information from a non-fiction book. Next week we will share our research with the rest of the class. Please remember that tomorrow is Library Day. Today we had Scientists In Schools in to lead the program, 'Don't Take Rocks For Granite'
Students rotated through 5 stations to hands-on learn about types of Igneous rock, Sedimentary rock, Metamorphic Rock, Mineral qualities and Erosion. There was a lot of learning for our budding geologists packed into the afternoon! |
